Ok the question are hitting the net all over the world. Will this be another iphone wanta-be or the final head of the nail for the actual "Iphone killer". Frankly I'm tired of the the term "Iphone killer", aren't you. Do you really think any one phone will all of sudden make the iphone unimportant or go out of business of making cell phone for the future. Drum roll please, and the answer is no, hell no! The only thing that can kill a iphone is maybe a group of phones that surpass the iphone reach limits enough that the market is flooded with superior products to the point where apple is no longer looked at AND apple makes no further attempts at beating them ever. So I believe we can move on from the term Iphone Killer. Now what about this Palm Pre? Off the bat I will tell you that the product is a very strong product on paper and how it has been displayed. Proof of that would be the fact that we are even talking about it after that copy cat presentation of apple's Iphone conference that Palm put on . Only theirs was very boring, I fell asleep 2 times during the video and had to keep rewinding it. They have no idea how to present with style. But even with this the phone still managed to outlast the boring presentation Palm gave, which shows that the product was good enough to stand by itself. Now as I'm sure you have heard Palm pushed the whole idea that this phone is suppose to be able to do so many things so well at the same time, having 3, 4 or more windows open at one time without slowing down?? Oh yea, and you will be able to get web pages within 10 secs( as posted on some sites). But what they don't say or show you is how that all works with just 3G speeds or even edge speeds. And I hate to be the one that brings light to it but come on people don't be fooled to think that somehow palm has found some magical way to do something no phone in the world is able to do. Phones can't load web pages at a average speeds of 10 sec's without wifi, it's just not going to happen on a regular basis(not unless you are going to a very small site over and over again or loading from you cache). And on top of that, the phone's multiple files openings at the same time is still based on web speed(wifi or 3g, or edge)for websites and memory for everything else. The phone isn't packing more memory that 16gb and even with apple's iphone there is still only so much it can handle without slowing down or suffering somewhere. This phone will be no different people. And if you notice not one time during that presentation did they show what the phone did on 3g speeds vs wifi and thats because just like all other phones out there you can't do things like send emails while you are on the phone without a wifi connect present( so that makes this feature less of a new thing and more like the same old thing). Now I'm only pointing this things to get over this whole superman phone hope that most have about this phone. Now bringing things back down to earth, the phone is very impressive with even the ability to do this at all and this is where I give credit to it. I like the resolution thus far but because of the small size of the unit, this will equal to smaller overall screen which means smaller viewing which isn't a good thing if you ask me. Has no video recording, but does have a hard keyboard and this is probably the way to go for the majority of folks out there(not me though) and can't say that I would have done anything different with the Pre if Palm had asked me. But with this keyboard the first thing people are going to have a problem with is the spacing for their fingers couple with trying to hold it with its curved body and typing fast and how you can't use the hard keyboard in landscape( I don't think it has a virtual keyboard either, I may be wrong) . There was no word about how all this will effect the battery life either and this is a very important thing to leave out of your presentation if you ask me which leads me to feel that it doesn't have a good life because I would think that you would boast about this if you had it as a selling point but they gave no numbers. Another issue is that the phone doesn't have a expandable memory which was a stupid thing to not have with all the grip the iphone got about this. Overall though I feel this is palm last chance at a entry into the smart phone corner of the cell phone business and feel that this is the best effort we have seen in palm in a long time. I however don't give credit for just piecing together concepts of other phones (like the HTC TOUCH PRO( you know it looks like a direct copy of this phone), IPHONE, and SONY EXPERIA) and putting it out like a new idea or concept, but I still don't think they had a choice in the matter. So lets hope for there sakes that the phone goes over well and they can deliver on some of the hype they created, if they do then I will be the first to congrad them.
