Look I know that task or goal of any company is to get to the top of the mountain. But sometimes even climbers know that you can't do this to even simpler mountains much less really hard ones when the conditions aren't right. This is what Sprint and Palm seem to be doing with their entry into the smartphone world again. They are doing this right on the eve of apple's massive 3.0 update and the window in which apple normally brings out another phone. Just like the instinct Sprint seems to be trying to attack the giant known as apple with it's new phone. But just like they did with the instinct they are making mistakes on the timing and battery life. This is what killed the instinct( that and it's slow processor). That seems to be the theme with Sprint but this time they are taking a struggling company down with them. They are yet again targeting the old iphone set up instead of waiting for the new one and then targeting that. Look I'm all for gadgets, I love them. Thats way write about so many of them. And I'm not bound to one product, I just want the best. I don't care if the Helio phone comes out with a superior phone that kicks the apple iphone butt, I would get that phone. But I'm not going to buy simply because it's new( I've made that mistake before) again. As a phone you would have to really show me that you have more than what the Iphone brings to the table before I could switch to you. Not just showing me that you can do 2 or 3 things in a different manner or layout(but still really doing the same thing) with a 1 trick pony underneath. And this is all to me that the Pre is doing. It has one salable trick the multiple task card layout, which nobody has seen operate without wifi. Then it has little things that really are just "oh by the way I can do this differently" stuff, but nothing that really shows buyers that already iphone users or blackberry users that they have to go out right now, cancel their contract, and buy another phone. This is what the iphone did to people which is why it was a game changer and is why even today it's still receiving awards like the JD powers award for best consumer product satisfaction. And we won't even go into the numerous of others it won when it first came out. But this is what you are dealing with when you take on the Mountain of the iphone. And I forgot to mention the numbers you face entering this game is well over 20 million units worldwide with a software base over a billion. No one phone ever had the stats the iphone has, not even close. This is why, I repeat, this is why the Palm Pre will not live up to the iphone. So the sooner people figure this out the better for palm and Sprint. Because if people think that you are suppose to be bigger than the shoes the iphone filled and you don't come close to that( simpler to what the instinct did, and where is it now?) then people will just look at you as yet another failure and you will then be looking for a part 2 pre much like you did with the instinct 2 in less than a year's time. I frankly don't think palm can take this hit in the pocket for this phone failing and i don't think Sprint will last much longer especially with the amount of loosing customers they continue to have yearly. Good luck to both of you. I hope you survive because I like competing company's. They make each other work harder for better products.
