Tablets are the fad not ebooks readers!

The other day I read some article claiming that ebook readers weren't good to buy because they are just a fad. Well, I strongly disagree with that statement. Go tell the millions of kindle fans and the waiting list for the Nook that its just a fad. One main reason is the fact that this earth is becoming more and more concern with saving trees than ever before. I mean when your billing companies out there are telling you to sign up for on-line email billing so they don't have to waste paper then you know its a big thing, not to mention it saves money. Another thing is consolidation. Being able to consolidate all your books into one neat package is priceless. It's also easier on your eyes because you can choose the font and size. And most importantly my wife won't give up the damn thing :). This is a dye hard book lover if I have ever seen one. This woman reads stacks of books in days, not weeks people! So it didn't shock me when Amazon said it was the most gifted item for Christmas.

Now moving on to tablets. This however I do feel is a fad.  Granted I haven't seen what the amazing Apple machine is going to do yet but if any of the rumars are true it won't be what Apple is hoping it to be. For one tablets are bothersome.  They aren't convenient at all. They are to big to fit in your pocket and not big enough to replace your laptop, as far as having proper spacing to type fast enough to replace laptops. The smallest one on the market looks like a huge gps car device. And if that's going to be the aim then why do I need a smartphone or vice versa. And there lies the problem. Your own worst enemy as a tablet are smartphones, contrary to most that believe them to be ebook readers. Yes, that's right Apple and other out there. You own enemy is your smartphones themselves. A tablet is actually worst than a smartphone because it can't make calls and its too big of course. In fact that's all tablets are, one big smartphone that can't make or receive calls. Looking at them side by side you will start to see it. They both have an o/s, they both connect to the internet, they both have WiFi, they both can read documents and edit them, they both can send out emails and receive them, they can save pictures, play mp3 music , etc, etc.  So, can we now see the same pattern? All these tablet companies know they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes like the camera companies tried to do with mega pixels and the tv companies did with contrast ratio numbers. They are trying to count on you to go out and buy a product that isn't better than the one you carry already in your pocket simply because they shape it differently, put a different spin on words and stats and tell you this is the next big thing. In the end we will have those that fall for this I'm sure but do yourself a favor and look before you leap.
